Have low-porosity hair? You already know what trouble it brings. Hair doesn't absorb the products, moisture won't penetrate, and in humid environments, you face terrible frizz. What might be a source of the problem? One of such substances is glycerin. Even though glycerin is one of the most commonly used humectants, it might turn out to be your worst nightmare in some extreme conditions. The solution is to use a glycerin-free leave-in conditioner tailored to your hair type.
Welcome back to MyDearDesign.com! I'm Ranchi, and today I want to share with you my best DIY recipe for a glycerin-free leave-in conditioner for low-porosity hair.

Why Use Glycerin-Free Leave-In for Low Porosity Hair?
Glycerin attracts moisture from the environment to your hair and hydrates it. However, in very humid weather, it attracts too much moisture, causing your cuticles to swell and resulting in frizz. On the other hand, in very dry environments, glycerin draws moisture out of your hair into the dry atmosphere. Low porosity hair is very hard to moisturise because of its tight cuticles that do not allow any penetration. Using glycerin as an ingredient is the reason for the build-up and stickiness, instead of actual moisturising.
DIY Glycerin-Free Leave-In Conditioner Recipe
And now I want to offer you an effective way to moisturise your low-porosity hair. It's an easy DIY recipe for a glycerin-free leave-in conditioner that can really help you to achieve the desired results.
What You Will Need:
1/2 cup distilled water: always use only distilled water to avoid any mineral accumulation and bacteria.
2 tablespoons Aloe Vera Juice (NOT gel): Aloe juice is extremely light and has the same pH level as hair. As a result, it smooths your cuticles.
1 teaspoon jojoba oil or argan oil: These oils have a very small molecular structure and can penetrate your low-porosity hair instead of creating build-up.
1/2 teaspoon slippery elm extract or marshmallow root extract (optional): it provides outstanding "slip" for detangling.
3-5 drops of essential oil (e.g., lavender or peppermint) for a good scent and healthy scalp.
Fine mist spray bottle.
How To Make:
If you decide to add slippery elm extract or marshmallow root, soak it in warm distilled water for about 15 minutes and strain it well. Then let it cool.
In your spray bottle, put distilled water (or infused liquid), aloe juice, and chosen oil (jojoba or argan).
Put on your essential oils.
Close the bottle and shake well. There are no emulsifiers in this recipe, so every time before usage, you need to shake your bottle.
How To Use Glycerin-Free Leave-In For Low Porosity Hair
There are two secrets to moisturising low-porosity hair—the right product and technique. Let's see how to use this conditioner effectively:
Use Warmth: low porosity hair responds well to warmth. Apply the conditioner immediately after a warm shower while your cuticles are lifted up from the steam.
LCO Method: After using your glycerine-free leave-in conditioner (liquid), apply a very light cream (cream) and lock it with light oil (oil).
Do Not Overwet Your Hair: Since this recipe consists mostly of water and lightweight ingredients, a fine mist is usually enough. Overwetting your hair might cause a too-long drying process.
Storage Tip from Ranchi: This homemade recipe does not contain any preservatives, so I recommend storing it in the fridge for better shelf life (about 1-2 weeks). Cold mist will feel great for your scalp!
